Eco-Friendly Program Management

Keeping the environment clean and green doesn’t really mean only recycling or buying organic. In corporate world, more and more companies are including green thinking strategy in their growth plans and day to day performances. Executives who are responsible for such strategies give a hard thought to various ways of going paperless, decreasing carbon footprint and incorporating energy saving process in their business practices. Especially in program management, there are many ways project managers can do little things that can add to a eco-friendly environment.  So whether you are responsible for leading and developing such programs or not, there are three small steps everyone can take to contribute towards the mission green.

Go Paperless

The simplest and the most efficient way to help the environment is use less and less paper products. There is absolutely no need to print all project status and related documents for everyone attending the meeting. Try to get the most essential information in print and the rest can be shared in the meeting through mounted screen display. This brings to my next topic.

Go Sharing

Another key step that can be so useful in going green is the use of laptops. It is not necessary for every team member to bring their laptops to the meeting room. For presentations, coordinate all files through a single share folder. Saving energy consumption saves environment.

Go Virtual

If the meeting attendees are scattered over multiple locations, there is no need to travel for the meeting. There are so many tools available today that allows project managers to conduct meetings efficiently and in a productive manner. In fact these tools also have other features such as  meeting notes, chat capability and desktop sharing that are very very handy.

Conclusion

Of course there are many factors that has to be considered but keeping the above points in mind will certainly help. Anything you do be customer centric and add only to their value. I am positive following some basic rules, the customers too will appreciate and value the effort towards building a green eco-environment for all of us.
